Dimash has expressed his sentiments many times regarding his childhood dream of presenting a concert in the USA, singing Kazakh songs and sharing his country’s culture and music with the world, and HE DID IT!
Dimash’s first solo concert in the United States was on December 10, 2019!
The concert was held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY — a music venue which has held many concerts, award ceremonies and festivals since its opening in September 2012. Many top performers from around the world have played at Barclays, including; Barbra Streisand, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Beyonce and Billy Joel, just to name a few.
According to polls conducted by Dimash USA, Dears from 67 countries, 43 states and 2 U.S. territories traveled to the U.S. to see Dimash’s performance! Despite the rainy weather, over 15,000 people came from all over the world to attend a sold out concert for this once in a lifetime experience! There can only ever be one “first”, and this was a first like no other!
It was a tight timeline for Dimash and his team to prepare, having arrived in New York just 2 days before the concert, but everything came together beautifully with an incredible stage design, light show and state of the art technology, utilizing various backgrounds and moving images on the giant screens that served as a back-drop. Sparks and smoke launched from jets around the perimeter of the stage adding to the excitement and magical atmosphere in the arena. The details and work put into the show were impressive! Dears filled the sold-out arena, wearing their best Dimash apparel and Dear headbands. In addition, you could see the plethora of signs, banners, cut out hearts and flags throughout the audience.
Dimash opened with the song “Golden”, rising up on a platform from underneath the stage, his arms opened wide, welcoming the thousands of fans that had come to see him! There were many moments that Dimash appeared to have upon his face, looks of amazement and disbelief, that his dreams were coming to fruition! Dimash’s talent and artistry shown as bright as the stars in the sky! On several occasions, Dimash beckoned his Dears to turn on the flashlights on their cell phones and hold them up in the air, turning the arena into a sea of sparkling lights. Dimash had many talented musicians and dancers supporting him that evening, including his amazing band, backup vocalists, Kazakh traditional instrument musicians and highly spirited dancers that added to and complemented Dimash’s boundless energy and stage presence! Dimash’s brother Mansur even joined him on the stage, playing the Dombra.
Dimash invited some special guest performers to join him on the stage that evening, including the beautiful and regal-like dancers of the Astana Ballet and Miss Aikerim Tleubek of Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, whom Dimash introduced to the audience, as the winner of the Baqytty Bala-2019 International Children’s Festival.
Dimash indulged multiple times in one of his favorite things to do at his concerts — getting his Dears to sing along to his songs! Dimash shared that when the audience sings with him it gives him “energy, power”. Dimash and Dears shared an emotional moment at the end of Dimash’s performance of “Daididau”. It was easy to see Dimash’s joy, in hearing his Dears singing the song back to him. He also showed us some fantastic dance moves that night, especially in his performances of “Give Me Your Love” and “Durduraz”. Dimash played with the audience with his “vocal exercises”, which Dears attempted to the best of their ability! Dimash made his way out onto the arena floor and into the audience twice during “Screaming”, surrounded by security personnel just trying to keep up! Dimash also took the opportunity to introduce and thank his band and backup vocalists during this song as well as expressing his thanks to his team, dancers, family members, fans and the people involved in the production of the concert. At the end of the song Dimash threw his leather DQ Envoy jacket out into the audience!
Dimash concluded the concert with “Let it Be”. At the end of the song, he slowly disappeared as the same platform that brought him to the stage at the beginning of the concert, lowered back down beneath the stage, with Dimash shouting “I love you” to his Dears before completely vanishing from sight! It was a miraculous night that no one would ever forget! Happy 1st Anniversary Dimash! Your first concert in the USA was a complete success! Dimash, we can’t wait for the day you return and perform for us once again!
